• Provide effective shade for east and west windows. When possible, delay heat-generating activities such as dishwashing until evening on hot days.

Try to keep your car cool. Many people will tint the windows on their car to reflect some of that desert sun. If you plan on shopping and your car will be sitting in the sun all day, you can set a frozen bottle of water on your seat to keep it cool. If possible, try to avoid doing your chores when the sun is blazing. Instead, go for that run early morning, or late evening. Moving can be a challenging time. If you have children, that can make things seem like a whirlwind. Planning a move with children can make the move just a little bit easier for the whole family.

Try to spread the move out over a couple of days. If you move all in one day, more than likely you and the children will be grumpy. If possible, take a few days for your move to relieve some stress. Hire a babysitter or have a family member watch the children. You can make it a fun play date for the children while you pack and move your belongings. This allows the children to enjoy themselves, and not get shuffled around during the move. At your new home, don’t wait to make connections.
